Water based acrylics, water base polyurethanes, and other resin systems are now widely used in coatings, inks, leather, and so on. However, these resins often fall short in water resistance, solvent resistance and abrasion resistance—making crosslinkers essential for performance enhancement.

There are three mainstream types of water based crosslinkers including polyaziridine crosslinker, carbodiimide blocked isocyanate crosslinker.

Where Aziridine Stands Out

As the comparison shows, polyaziridine crosslinker's core competitiveness comes down to efficiency.

  • Fast — Self-crosslinks at room temperature without heating, far quicker than carbodiimide (which takes days) or blocked isocyanate (which requires deblocking above 120°C).

  • Economical — Only 1–5% dosage is needed to significantly improve water resistance, solvent resistance, and mechanical properties, offering clear cost advantages.

  • Simple — Can be added directly to waterborne formulations with low-speed stirring, requiring no modification to existing production lines.

These three advantages make polyaziridine crosslinker irreplaceable in interior coatings, leather, textiles, and similar applications especially where production efficiency and cost-effectiveness are priorities.
